Mixed ADATs, track assignments?

I have a 20 bit and a 16 bit ADAT to work with on an upcoming project. I am sitting her scratching my head over what trracks to assign to the 20 bit machine and what to assign to the 16 bit machine. The project is standard rock and roll fare, drums, bass, guitar and B-3, maybe some piano and a little sax.

Maybe I'm over-analyzing things a bit here, but I'm sleep deprived and it keeps buzzing around in my brain, so I thought I'd throw it out there and see what y'all come up with.

set the 20 bit machines for 16 bit and don't worry about it. Anyway, chances are one of those machines will need repair, leaving you with a tape that can't be read by the other machine.

Hmmm, there's an idea. I was wanting to use the 20 bit machine to its full potential,but you have a point about the 16 bit machine not being able to play the 20 bit tapes. If I do use the mixed format, I'm making a 16 bit backup copy of everything just in case
