I mixdown from my fostex x-12 onto my dad's Sony mini hi/fi cd/tape/md. It works, but I have a question. There is no level meter on the Sony, so it's difficult to tell how high I should put the volume on the four track when I mixdown. Is there any way to find the right levels besides mixing down a few times until its not distorted? I read that the higher you mixdown without clipping, the better it will sound. Also, does the volume on the actual Sony that I'm mixing down onto play a role in this? I usually just keep it at 10 while I'm mixing down. Any help would be appreciated.
