Is it a good idea to mix down Drums > Bass > guitar befor laying vocals?

Anybody use drum machines w/Audobe Audition? I was curious how you might filter the sound?
 
You don't need to mix down until all the tracks are recorded. In fact, I prefer to wait in case some EQ or compression proves to be necessary once you've got the vocals in...not to mention re-recording parts that end up not sounding the way you want with the vocals, or muting parts that sound great by themselves but mask important lyrics etc.
