Midi setup with Reaper and Scarlett 18i6

I have a basic laptop, Reaper 4.2, and a Scarlett 18i6.

Anyone feel like helping a brother out on recording basic midi piano tracks, and being to listen to/play back?

I set Options > Preferences > Midi Device to the Scarlett, and I know how to arm the track for recording midi, so when I record, the midi is showing up, but I have no idea how to playback. This is my very first foray into midi, and would love a very, basic tutorial on this if anyone has the time or inclination.

midi is only performance information (key down, key up, etc) and no real sound.
you have to put a synth or sampler of some kind on the fx of the track to make sound.
