midi drum programs

I posted this in another forum and was advised to post it here where the real midi maniacs reside! Hope somebody can help!

I've got a little home studio out in the middle of nowhere in which I record mostly demo stuff. Still, I want the drums to sound as good as possible but getting a live drummer in is out of the question. I've messed with drum machines and like em to a degree. I've got an Alesis SR-16 and right now I mostly use the drum machine from an Ensoniq ZR-76. I'm wondering about midi drum programs like DRUMTRAX or BEATBOY. Anybody out there using them? Are they any good? How do they work. I'm a novice.. PLEASE HELP!.
 
I have yet to find an affordable drum machine that sounds real, with the exception of V-drum{4g's for a brain}
I have several hardware samplers but have switched to software sampler CD's, .wav, AIFF. These by far have been the best sounding buildable kits I have found so far.

Of course you need a software sampler to use these.
