MIDI box for High Hat?

Does anyone make a small box sort of like a DI box that would let me plug in a piano continuous foot pedal and output MIDI control codes. I'm wanting my digital piano's sustain pedal as a Variable High Hat Controller for digital drums.

http://www.midisolutions.com/index.htm may have a box that does that. A used Alesis D4 would do it and a lot more for not much more $.

I've heard that some people have put triggers (or pedals like you fhave) right into mic jacks on DAW programs and I think Reaper has a VST that changes that into a MIDI note.

If you use a Mac MidiPipe can help you tweak things. It can change anything into anything pretty much, plus limits values and is very handy (and free).

You don't really need a continuous controller for hihat, On ones I've used it's just a note on/off plus they have it set up that the down and up positions cut each other off and can't sound at the same time.

Another thought - if you use a Mac and have any synth lying around you could probably plug a pedal into the sustain pedal jack and use that with MidiPipe.

There is program that I believe does similar things for PC called MidiOx http://www.midiox.com/

A good midi controller keyboard will allow you also allow you to assign whatever you want to the sustain pedal (even notes) so you could just press that and have it control a sampler..

Ah, excellent idea. I bet I can get program my Motif ES work. I was wanting to lay down some drum tracks using drum software, and had wanted something better than a binary ON/OFF pedal for the HH on the cheap.
