MIDI Backup Live

Hey guys,
I was wondering if it is possible to have a computer play virtual instruments live as backup tracks, and have them syncronize with the live music via tap tempo or something of the sort.

I thought that it was different.
In the other forum I was asking about pre-recorded tracks. In this one I was asking about midi. I thought that might make a difference.
I don't want to get anyone mad at me.
