Mid side redording

I want to use the mid side technique on an acoustic guitar project, and I have a question about how I can best do this with my Tascam 2488. I realize that the standard procedure is to duplicate the side recording and then put one of these tracks out of phase with the other.
With the Tascam 2488, it appears that I can streamline this a bit by recording the signal from my side mic onto two channels, and that I can record one of them out of phase. I'm thinking that the result will be identical to the first technique I described. Am I missing anything?
I hope this makes sense and look forward to your input.

If you can route the signal from the side mic to two channels during recording and then reverse the phase/polarity of one of them, then you are good to go. Just pan the two side mic channels away from each other, and that is all there is to it.
