Mid growl.. HM-2 like gravel??

What tube amp sounds like the Boss HM-2???

And no, it isn't a trick question.
I really like the gravel-like growly mids of the swedish death-metal bands, like Dismember, Nihilist and Entombed. And as I understand they are using that pedal for their sound. But I can't be assed to f*ck around with pedals and batteries. There must be SOME amp that has that growl?

Hmmm... If you like that sound, you might want to try some solid states. They give you that grindy sound.

But in tube amps, Mesa Boogie Rectoverb, Hughes and Ketner Switchblade, Carvin amps... Just look around.

Dude.... You don't think I've looked? :laughings:

Went through the gearslutz high-gain amp shootout, and every other sample I've found from the net.
Oddly, the closest thing I've found is my "Zaerix"-tubed Mesa V-twin pedal..
I'm not gonna take the solidstate-route, I've grown to the tube amps too much..
Well, I guess you can't have everything.:p

Hmmm... I think you misunderstood a bit..

Engl has some really high "tearing paper"-gain, but it's smooth... like:
GSSSS..GSSSGGSS..GS.

Dismember is like:
T-T-TTRRRRRRR-AAAAAAARRRRHHH!!! :D

Example; the prolonged chords in the beginning and after 4:00....

You hear the TRRRR?.... un-smooth.. kinda..like.. you know.

Some band called Absorbed nailed it too:

But thanks for the effort!.

OK I listened to the samples of bands that you provided. You really don't want a tube amp. What you want is an overly saturated diode clipping / digital distortion that is the total opposite of anything even remotely resembling tube tone. The line6 modeling amps produce the exact type of nasty distortion as the bands in the links that you provided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZwz3PCr8_c&feature=related

Also check out some fuzz pedals. They have a much more exaggerated clip than most amp distortion. Some fuzz pedals even let you choose the waveform: sawtooth, square, etc. It sounds like you want some type of square wave or other exaggerated clipping. Fuzz pedals would be the closest fit that I could think of. Put one of those in front of a solid-state amp and that should sound sufficiently ear-piercing.
