So what microphones are you using with the MR-8? I've been using what I have with my SR system and am not happy with the results. I realize condensers would be the best, but with the MR-8 I'd have to buy a power supply since the MR-8 lacks phantom power.
I'd also prefer some good quality dynamic mics so they could do double duty with the SR system.

Im using the audio Technica that came with the MR 8 kit from Musicians Friend, and have been very happy with it so far, I also use, on occaision, an Electro Voice PL 78 that uses phantom power, but it will take a very odd battery.
I was wondering,
Did you get the Tiny Tim mp3?

Yes, I did get the Tiny Tim mp3. Dave Barry once said that the "Golden Throats" series of cds put out by Rhino contained a version of "Try a Little Tenderness" sung by Jack Webb that was guaranteed to void the strongest bladder because it was so awful. Obviously Barry had not heard Tiny Tim perform "Nowhere Man."

I've been using the PVi mics that came with my PA system (a Peavey Escort 2000). I'm considering the Audio-Technica MB2000L since they have the widest frequency range in a mic that I've seen for less than $60. street price.

I tried clicking on the link to download "Overseas Stomp" but it kept taking me to a blank page.

I've been using a MXL v57m large diaphram condensor, a SM57, a 55S (old Elvis type mic), SM58, an inexpensive small condensor from Radio Shack, a Sony stereo condensor. and some SM58 clones.

I've been thinking of picking up either a Rode NT1 or a decent small diaphram condensor and maybe another MXL large diaphram mic.

I've seen some cheap prices on MXL mics on Musician's Friend and was thinking of one for our group to do some live accapella songs on. Is the MXL any good?

Gospel,

I bought the MXL v57m from American Musical Supply...based on a post from someone on another recording forum.

It was sale priced at $69.95 and this included the shockmount!

Generally you get what you pay for...BUT I was pleasantly surprised with the results I've been getting with this thing...It just makes me want to eventually get several new "GOOD" mics.

I've been miking my acoustic guitars and mandolin and getting some fabulous sounds....much better than the dynamic mics!!

the MXLv57m requires phantom power so I've been using an ART Tube MP Studio preamp with it...(I have also been using it for DI with electric bass with good results)

I have always been using primarily a dynamic mic ala Shure SM57 and SM58....The large diaphram condensor is a whole new ball game. I've been reading up on mics lately and starting to understand mic placement, what mic for what job etc.

I've read pretty good reviews on the MXL mics... the less expensive stuff really works out great for us weekend warriors.

I'll probably end up buying another one of the v57m's jsut to have a pair of them...I would also like some small diaphram condensor mics.

Redstar,
I checked out your song. I'm impressed.
I'm looking at the MXLv63m now. Musician's Friend has it for $79.99. It's battery powered so I wouldn't have to worry about a phantom power unit for recording with the mr-8.
