micing a cajon

just wondering if anyone has any experience in recording a cajon. Best mic placements and what should i do i have two basic mics an apex 435 and a sm57 my best results have been from placing the sm57 close to the top of the cajon to pic up the snare sound and the 435 about 6 inches away. any other suggestions would be great
 
I always put a M88 inside and something else big & slow (RE20, SM7b) on the front. In your case, 57 inside, 435 front -- Although a side-address is going to be a b**ch to position...

I always place the mic with about an inch or two inside the hole. Just play around with it! Mic placement somewhat depends on playing style and aggressiveness.
