Mic selection for my portable studio

bstarstudios

Useless Thoughts
So im working on a briefcase sized mobile rig and need a good sounding condenser to round it off

using the first gen m audio fasttrack and a mic tube pre (the cheapie)

Im budgeting about 150 for a mic. was thinking studio projects b1 or maybe even an at2035

my main uses is recording acoustic guitar, vocals, tambourine and maybe some other hand percussion instruments.

advice?

You're probably going to want to record in stereo someday, so how about the AT2035 and then a second when you get the change? Also there are a very different Fastracks; get the one with two mic inputs (the stereo thing again) or a different USB interface that has two (phantom-powered) mic inputs. Forget about an external preamp; that's an appendage you don't need, especially with condenser mics.

I was looking at the AT2035. seems pretty solid for the price range. going to scope out guitar center used and if nothing shows buy one. My fasttrack works for now but yes i want one with more inputs and phantom down the road.
