mic preamps ?

So... Im recording into an MR8 ( fostex) then it goes into N-track which is pretty good so far but the vocals*#^! I still get some clipping. Is this because I'm not using a mic preamp or I just havn't figured out how to do the other stuff yet. Any ideas would be GRRREAT. paganprogress

limiters, compression, mic placement, pop filters, gain and trim, etc...

what are you plugging your mic into ? the MR8...built in pre ?
what kind of mic ?

yeah into the MR8 (the mic that is) its some audio technika thing, not so good I suppose but ... the dollers for another mic are not with me right now

If you can save a little get ya a shure sm57 or 58...very reliable workhorse mics that sound good.
