Mic pre help?

Would you suggest that I buy a mic pre if I already have mic pre's in my Behringer 1604, or are the Behringer mic pre's less than par?
 
I had the Behringer MX2624 and the preamps were of poor quality. I would suggest IMHO
to invest in a mic-pre.
 
IMHO your beringer mic pre's aren't "bad", it's just that there are stand alone units out there that are very good. If you want to have the down town sound you'll want to invest in one. A good condenser mic, a decent mic pre and a compressor and you can compete.
