Mic for Low Alto

I have a project with a gal with a real low voice. She sounds alot like Karen Carpenter and occasionally will do some higher diva stuff. My best house mic is a AT4040 which has done magic for me up until now. I can't really explain the problem its having and just know in my gut that the mic is wrong for her voice.

I would like to rent a really good mic for our vocal session; does anyone have any idea what kind of mic might work well in this application. the music is basic pop music with lots of ear candy, but a really up front vocal.
 
Have you tried a large diaphragm dynamic like a Sennheiser MD-421 or 441? They're both very detailed, especially the 441, and have a really nice, smooth bottom end... ;)
