Mesa Pre sounds awesome

I had the chance to hear the new Mesa Boogie guitar recording preamp the other day. It's balls out killer. I have heard the POD, and it's OK, but the boogie is something to behold. Of course, the boogie is a little more expensive at about a grand. However, it really does replace the need to mic an amp when recording. That's hard for me to say because I am kind of a purist on this subject. It's solid at the clean stuff, and it is really awesome at crunch distortion. It does a really good job of picking up the subtleties and nuances of variation in touch. The only problem that I detected was that the specific unit that I was trying didn't have a true stereo send out of the heavy channel. The salesman said that there was probably a loose solder joint inside somewhere. At any rate, my guitar player put some money down on a new one.

If you get the chance to check one out, by all means, do it.

Its a real preamp. I cant ever imagine Mesa making a modelor. I would totally lose faith in them then. :)
