I know if I connect a 4 channel mixer via the aux input I'm going to have a stereo sub mix of those four tracks. If I connect an 8 channel pre amp via s/pdif will I have a stereo sub mix of those eight tracks or will It extend the amount of inputs to ten? Here's an example. If I wanted to record a drum kit I would have the snare mic going to input one and the kick mic going to input two while my pair of overheads would have a signal chain of running into the Mixer that is connected via the aux input which would give me my stereo track. If I connected an 8 channel pre amp via s/pdif would I be able to close mic the entire kit and have room mics while having ten independent audio tracks or would it just be an eight track stereo sub mix? I hope it's a clear explanation to the question. I'm using an M Box 2 Pro by the way

Ha

Thank you

spdif only works for 2 channels.

the mbox2 pro, which i used to own, can only support 6 inputs. that is:

2 built in preamps
2 line inputs
2 channels of spdif

thats it

This is correct. This means you can only record 6 discrete channels.
