I've read some poor reviews on this drive. Has anyone here had any problems with this drive?

Could you reccomend another in the same performance/price range?

Thanks.

I've been using a whack of them for over a year now..... I can't imagine why they would have a poor review....... they're excellent.

I'm with Blue Bear on this one...never heard of any problems with these drives. Maxtor generally puts out damn good product.

I used to be the Electronics Specialist at the local Staples (stop drooling...it's not all bitches & bling  ). Anyways, I sold hundreds of these things during my time there - I can only remember 2 being returned. Both returns were for the same reason. Users had USB 1.1 cards installed in their system. USB 2.0 is backwards compatible but they complained the transfer was slow. Instead of installing new USB cards, they opted to buy new systems.

I'd be interested in reading these negative reviews...point me in the right direction if you would...

The 2 bad reviews I read in my short search stated problems with the drive and poor customer service. One review stated the system was dificult to use and slow. I'll post them if I can find them again. I'm getting ready to leave for the weekend. Hunting season here in Michigan.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in the Maxtor.

I've only had to speak with Maxtor's rebate center - never their customer service, so I can't help you with that. I haven't heard any complaints though...Blue Bear, maybe you can offer some insight?

As far as it being slow, both USB and Firewire have maximum speed transfer capabilities. It really can't be any faster.

Difficult to use? No, it works just like any other drive on your system. The drivers are built in so there's no installation involved - windows should detect the new drive automatically. It has one touch backup - maybe the big button on the front eluded the user's finger?? I don't know.

Overall, it's a pretty safe bet you'll be happy with this drive.

Sounds like the reviewer was slow.......

You plug the fuckin' thing in and power it up -- hardly difficult! And the transfer rates are right up there - I don't see a noticeable difference in performance between my internal drives and these. I've even recorded to them and done video rendering without difficulty.

Customer service I can't comment on, but it hardly has anything to do with whether the drives themselves are good or not! (Which they are...)

I've run Adobe Audition sessions with a couple of plugs going, with the .wav files on my external Maxtor One Touch, and it has been working as if it was an internal. Plus, the blue light is kinda cooool.

I didn't bother to use the one touch feature, however. Wasn't really what I needed the drive for anyway. But, at this point, I'm hooked on the use of external drives like the Maxtor One Touch, and for backups, think they would be the 'bee's knees."

Admittedly, I have only had my Maxtor a fairly short while though, at this point.

Well that's good enough for me. I am going to get the Maxtor. CompUSA has it for $249 - $70 ($179) instant rebate that expire 11-13-04.

Any suggestions on where to purchase?
