I don't know if I am overlooking something or what but can you not control the input level on this card? When I adjust the HW 1/2 level it only controls the monitoring volume but the meters still peak.
If the answer is something really dumb feel free to poke fun. (be gentle please)

turn down the volume going into the inputs...honestly, theres what you hear and what the computer hears.....record something, play it back and see how you like it...if not, modify the volume on the mixer. also, lower the wav volume in the windows mixer...that may help some also

That's what I've had to do so far. I just thought it was odd or that I was missing something since my cheap onboard ac97 sound card had input level control.
