Marshall Cab

Yo,

I have a Marshall AVT 50H right now. Im trying to decide which cab to play thru. Should I go with the one thats 'designed' for it, the AVT412A 4X12 OR a Mesa Cab that looks badass OR a higher end Marshall Cab? What is the benefit of having the cab thats 'designed' for the amp?

Thanks.

It all depends on the tone you are looking for. Speaker cab choice can color your tone as much as your axe, preamp, and power amp. Factors that affect the speaker cab tone include speaker choice, cabinet design, and wood choice. Audition the cabs for yourself to determine what fits your tastes. E.g., if you want the "stock" tone, go for the cab that was "designed" for it.

An old 1960A was the best sounding cabinet I have ever played through. I've played through the Mesa 4x12 and it sounded muddy to me. Right now I'm playing through a late 80's Laney 4x12 cab and it has an annoying woof every time you chuck on the low e. The 1960 had none of those problems.
