I am ashamed to admit, but for years I have used cooledit pro. and for years i have not understood the noise reduction feature. I would always select the entire .wav and just have to compromise between hiss and that awful "underwater" effect it put on my track....only as recently as this weekend did i understand the importance of what "get profile from selection" and what to select meant. now my tracks sound 100% better and free of noise!
