making two tracks into one

I've recorded both tracks and now want to make them into
one mp3 but i'm stuck, i dragged one track on top of the
other and it sounds ok .now? i did it last night with a bit of luck
but now i'm stuck.
So simply i recorded 2 tracks, edited them together and now
want to save as an mp3.
I'm finding Sonar good to use and this is my first question on it,
i know practice and trial and error are the good way to go
but if someone could help me here i'd be :)

You don't need to make them one track in Sonar.

What you want to do is simply export the project (File > Export > Audio). Sonar does not come with a tool to create mp3's (except possibly a trial version). If you have the trial version, you can export directly as an .mp3 by choosing that as the format.

If not, export as a wave file, then use a freeware mp3 encoder to create your mp3. http://www.mp3-converter.com/mp3_converter_freeware.htm

When i save it it saves as 2 files, bass and drums and guitar, am i missing
something out as in saving the audio all mixed as one, then export audio
or when you export audio do you mix the 2 as your exporting.
I thought i could add 2 tracks in the export and choose entire mix but it
seem to only take one track at a time and exports that.
Thanks for that link and your advice.

It sounds like you have some of the options in the export dialogue box set improperly.

I don't have my copy of Sonar handy, but make sure "export to stereo mix" is checked and not "export to separate left and right files." Also, under separation "all main outs to a single mix" should be selected. Play with the options until you understand what each does.

Essentially you should be able to take ALL your tracks (2, or 5, or 25) and export them to a single, stereo wave file (one stereo track).

Let us know if you still have trouble, and we'll walk you through it step by step.

I've been trying again and again, drums and bass one track, guitar another track being saved as 2 tracks in cakewalk projects :D :D got it as i was writing this :)

Export audio and make sure your tracks are the only one in the folder your
about to export from, in my case it was 2 tracks..Source\Category-Tracks
not entire mix and all the files appear in the box Source tracks-Export and
it joins them into one in the audio forlder....if you follow.
