Mackie Bass Amps?

My friend has an opportunity to buy an all-tube Mackie bass amp. I didn't know such a thing existed.

Thoughts?

Anyone ever used one?
 
Maybe a miscommunication and its a Hartke?

Mackie doesnt build bass amps. They DO build power amps, which could be used for bass...but they do not have tubes in them.

Odd. He definitely says it is a Mackie. I suppose it could be a power amp, which would be usable -- but not ideal, I'm sure.

Could it be that Mackie made bass amps in the past, but discontinued them?
 
I am pretty sure Mackie never made bass amps. I have seen quite a few bass rigs with the Mackie as the main amp. Usually like an i1400 or something.

And if that's what he has, he'll need a preamp.
 
Using a separate pre and power amp is very popular with bass players these days. Gives you great flexibility, both in terms of sound and ability to vary wattage to suit the gig.
