i always have recorded fine in aa but thru the pc soundcard with pc mic. now i stepped up to a real condenser mic with the m audio pre usb interface now i can hear sound outside of the aa program but cant hear it in aa program. someone help am i not choosing the sound card or what???

Go to Options/Device Order and make sure the input device is in the "Use" (right hand) column. Don't forget to tick the box "Use in EV [Edit View]" or you won't be able to hear the tracks in Edit View. It doesn't hurt to check Windows Mixer to check whether the input is muted and that the volume sliders are where they need to be. If your interface has a Control Panel, check that too.
