Now I have both, and think the cards in both of them are great. But do you think I'd get a better "sound" running my fast track through the e-mu instead of via usb?

so basically what I'm asking is, do you guys think the e-mu has better cards than the fast track ultra?

You might get better performance. Just because the 1212m is PCI, and when using ASIO drivers you should be able to keep your latency pretty low so long as your computer can handle it.

I have a PCI 0404, and the highest I ever raise my latency to any more is to 8. If I were you I would always be using the 1212m. Plus if you are running a 32bit OS you should beable to use the DSPfx as VST effects. Cutting down the CPU overhead even more.
