Low budget analog field recording

Hey folks.

I purchased a Sony WM-D6C just for fun. I have a Nagra IV-S and I don't expect the Sony will compete, but there are times when I'd rather keep the good gear safe at home.

I'm not experienced with plug-in power on the Sony. I do have a pair of stealth-type head-worn mics. They work fine in the Sony.

I have a Crown SASS that I can put 9-volt batteries in to provide phantom and use that. Can I just use an adapter to go from balanced to the 1/8 stereo plug on the mic input of the Sony? Will that damage the SASS?

Short of using a battery-powered preamp, are there any other good-quality portable mic options?

Thanks

There was a thread on this very same topic here a couple of years ago that you might want to search for as it had several replies to it addressing a number of different options.

Cheers! :)
