Low and Inaudible frequencies....

I record (mostly synths) directly into Cubase - however I read somewhere recently that instruments like basses and kicks carry a sweep of very low frequencies which, though inaudible, can push your mix into the red and therefore cause a reduction in volume when you lower your levels to compensate.

Is this true?

If so, should I export my basslines etc. into a Wave editor and run parametric Eq (Sound Forge EQ options to 'remove low and inaudible freqs' and 'remove low-freq hiss and rumble') or is it all much ado about squat?

What you need is a high pass filter - This is a filter with a steeeep rolloff at a set frequency like 50Hz. It allows all frequencies above 50 hz to pass but cuts off below 50hz hence the name High Pass Filter.

BTW the opposite is naturally Low Pass Filter which does the reverse.

cheers
