live drum overheads?

i need to get some mics for my kit for playing live. i'm worried that buying a typical sdc for the overheads could cause feedback problems cause i do sing also and have a monitor. this has probably been discussed before but i couldn't find it in a search. so what do you guys typically use for drum overheads live? or do you just skip the overheads and buy really loud cymbals?

If your playing bars and smaller gigs you dont really need overheads, the kick / snare and tom mics would be more then good enough.
If your singing, your mic will also catch cymble action.
Now if your playing really big gigs (Stadiums / Auditoriums etc ???
