Like the OctoPre, but cheaper =)

I was thinking of upgrading to either a Layla or Delta 1010, but they don't have pre's.

Which means I need either a mixer with 8 direct outs or something like the Octopre. I prefer the rackmount style, but $900 plus is more than I want to spend on the pre alone.

Is there anything with at least Mackie-like pre quality that is similar to the Octopre but cheaper?

After you price this the RME Octopre won't seem so expensive.

Maybe not QUITE as good as mackie pres, but not terrible...

check out the Alesis Studio 12R mixer...8 pres with inserts on each one, and a few extras...

The Presonus Digimax LT is pretty nice, and can be had for a couple hundred less than the OctoPre. I'm using it on a project right now, and it's pretty sweet sounding...not really colored, but not sterile sounding either...
