A lot of useful links. I wish I could contribute my list, but I'm on so rarely nowadays that my favorites have dwindled away besides here and a few other hiphop boards. I'm always a fan of information sharing, I just wish I had some information to share.

Still diggin' all your stuff, Stray, as always.

BTW, Stray, do you actually know how to play the keyboard and read music? Because listening to your beats and that tutorial from a few weeks back, it seems like you do, but I see some links to chords and such that you posted above. Are they just for ideas or can you really play?

I'm gonna be startin' lessons in about a month... not to become Mozart, but to just learn the basic techniqe and chord progressions.

yeh ive looked at piano lessons as a great idea. I have picked up a few books and am looking into this site http://www.musicianuniversity.com/ . I thought this website might be of interest to you too as well. I have yet to try one of their piano corses.

Not really. If you gave me a piece of music that wasn’t too complex, I could figure it out in a couple hours. But, I never took lessons, learned everything I know from Piano For Dummies and various websites. I don’t have proper technique, but I do know the proper finger for scales and chords. I don’t think you can learn technique from a book or site. Then again, technique was never important to me.

One thing I would say though is that I could make progressions and what not before I learned anything about keys. After spending about a week learning, I couldn’t make beats anymore. The keyboard looked completely different to me. Since I couldn’t unlearn what I learned, I had to spend well over a year learning how to play before I could start making beats again. That’s why I started sampling.

I read an interview with Timbaland where he was saying that he only knew a couple chords and didn’t wanna learn more because he thought it would mess his style up. I guess that’s similar to “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. But, it depends on the person….everyone’s abilities and experiences are different.
