Laptop for Recording?

I can't decide between two "budget" laptops to use as a new workstation.... Which would you pick? (These prices are after a teacher discount.)

Toshiba Satellite A75-S231 $1350

Mobile Pentium 4 548 (3.33GHz 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB)
512MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM
100GB HDD (4200rpm)
15.4" Wide-screen XGA (1280x800)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP (64MB)

or

Compaq R4000 $1200

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (2.2GHz 512 L2 cache)
512MB DDR SDRAM
80GB HDD (5400rpm)
15.4" Wide-screen WXGA (1280x800)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M (128MB)

What's the reputation of Compaq / Toshiba for recording? The Toshiba seems like it'd be faster... I don't know how well AMD's stack up to Pentiums. But isn't a 4200rpm HD very slow? I'm afraid I don't know what to look for in a laptop.

roz.
on another forum a person called henchman is reporting excellent performance with a amd 64 laptop made by the new emachines. a 6800 series. i'm a computer engr and admit openly my bias to amd 64.
ive made a number of recommendations on this bbs for getting the right laptop including things like making sure you get one with a fast internal 7200 rpm drive.
just search a few months back under my name to save me retyping.
if you have no multitrack software i highly recommend what i use. powertracks from pgmusic.com. (i also use magix music studio - which has a lot of features).you will need an external sound device - usb or firewire for your laptop. ensure it has wdm support.
