I've come up with a very easy Do-It-Yourself project called the Killatone (TM). It's a new and improved rendition of the Auratone concept .

If you're not familiar with the Auratone, it was basically a cheap little single speaker monitor used as a reference standard for... well, other cheap little speakers... like those in small boom boxes, TV sets, and dash boards.
Give it a try. Even if you're not interested in a good reference standard for limited range systems, the Killatone is still very useful for highlighting upper bass and lower midrange issues in your mix!
Have fun!
