iLoks & dongles are part of life now. Personally, I don't know how I've been able to avoid the iLok (although I haven't avoided the Syncrosoft & WIBU keys).
But "welcome to the new world" --
That said - IMO/E (as a former Waves user), Waves wasn't worth the iLok that it needed to run. But I know plenty of people who swear by it for some odd reason and $40 for the iLok is spit compared to the cost of the plugs. The Syncrosoft and WIBU dongles are far more important to me (although personally, I just freaking hate dongles - But if you want "this" and you need "that" then it's just the way things are).
