I have a ZOOM 234 drum machine, and Protools. The drum machine only has a MIDI IN. So my question is, can I record MIDI into protools. I assume not, but I just want to make sure I'm not a complete idiot. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless the port is mislabeled you haven't lost your grip.

MIDI out is the signal you need from the Zoom to record MIDI on your PC.
 
The 234 only has midi in. You would need a keyboard or other device with midi out to control the 234. Or, you can do step entry with your mouse in a matrox editor depending on your softwares capabilities.
