trigger a yamaha motifs drum sounds from a v- drum kit via midi? and can the motif record the midi data?

Yes and Yes.

you just have to make sure that the pads send the correct MIDI note numbers on the correct MIDI channel, and run the sequencer.

It would most likely all be on one channel and you will need to tell the Vdrum what notes to send each drum out on.
