interface question

well, first off i have an m-audio mobile pre as my preamp/soundcard for audio recording. i have the stereo output going to my speakers. sometimes i like to play music and sing through the peamp/speakers karaoke style just for fun, but i have to raise the gain more on the interface to be able to hear my voice over the backing music which causes the actual interface to clip alot. and i was just wondering if clipping could actually damage the interface, or if doing this is completely fine. thanks.

clipping will damage the speakers... not specifically sure about the interface... but...

clipping applies direct current to the speaker coil (as it trys to hold the cone in place) which will cause it to overheat and burn up.

thanks for the reply..im not too worried about the speakers as its just a cheap old boombox... but does anyone know if it would damage the interface at all ?
