I just installed my 1U audio interface into a 19" rack and it was a bit of a hassle. After sliding the unit into the rack, I couldn't reach the cage nuts. So I placed the rack on it's side in order to slide the cage nuts into the right position, without them constantly falling down.
How do the pro's do this? Large and heavy racks cannot easily be placed sideways. Perhaps different cage nuts are more stiff and stay in position without the rack having to be horizontal.
