Get the Shure SM-58 package currently available at...
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...l/base_id/52815 for $100. This gets you a solid mic, stand, and cable.
Follow up with a Midiman AudioBuddy mic pre at...
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/love.music?p...z=1257036550013 for $80. This gets you two mic pres.
Then stick a Echo Mia Digital Audio Card (two analog in and two analog out) in PCI format...
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...l/base_id/51874 for $200.
$380 plus tax and profit-center shipping charges!

Marshall MXLv67 ($149)
for preamp, either a Delta DMP2 ($179) with an inline pad ($20) or a Joe Meek VC3Q.....depending on the sound you want...the DMP2 in a clean pre, while the Joe Meek has a pleasingly colorful sound......
soundcard - Delta Audiophile2496 ($159)
as far as cords, make your own...ill try and dig up the thread about it.....
