In need of new mixer, but which?

Ok my budget isn't good only £100, but I'm quite confident in my ability with software to fix what most Mixers ruin (I've made radio quality music on a freakin Soundblaster lol)

Basically I record at home on this set up;
Audio Technica AT4040SM Microphone > Mixer > M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (new purchase)

So inputs are not that important, I wouldn't mind one or two (aswell as a mic WITH phantom power preamp) to attach a Noise Gating piece of hardware in the future but thats a long way off.

I WAS using the Phonic MM1002 Mixer, but it's on it's last legs and hums, crackles and fizzes so much these days, that it's becoming A LOT of work to save my vocals.

Now I've had a look around and found the following mixers, so if anybody can recommend one?

Behringer Xenyx 802 (1002/1202 seemed pointless, don't need that many inputs and it had no sound difference according to specs. Yet 502 seemed a bit too basic for my liking)

Alesis MultiMix 6FX

Yamaha MG102C

Mackie 402-VLZ3

A lot of people say "if you can afford Mackie, get it!" but my knowledge on specs isn't that great and my experience with equipment isn't either. All I know is my mic is very good, but always held back by my Mixer/Soundcard. Now the soundcard is very nice, but the mixer needs to go.

Any help would be appreciated :D

None of your links have info on the specs of the mixer in terms of s:n ratios so it's difficult to make a competent suggestion.

Ignoring the specs, which is downright dangerous, I'd lean toward that Yamaha model as it seems to be the more generous in the in/out department and Yamaha has more years of experience in building pro quality mixers that all of those other brands put together...so hopefully, they know what they're doing at this stage of the game. ;)

Cheers! :)

When you say the 2496 card is a new purchase, does this mean you have it already or are you going to get it? The reason I ask is that if you have not bought it yet, you may want to look at an interface instead of a mixer. If numerous inputs is not important, an interface may suit you better.

If you are gong for the mixer, the Mackie is top notch. I would also consider the Alesis. A lot of people complain about the Alesis, but I have had great success with one.

Yeah I've already brought it, I originally planned to get an interface with preamps to skip the mixer, but didn't have the money. But now I have the money and don't really want to re-sell the soundcard already lol.

If you can find an audio interface in my budget, then I'll consider skipping the mixer I suppose and just sell the new interface I already bought.

How about an M-Audio DMP3? Two-channel mike preamp and DI and the sound and specs are just fine. They go for about $100US every day on eBay in barely used condition.

Cheers,

Otto

Tascams are pretty good mixers. I'd (personally) go for either the Tascam, Yamaha, or Mackie. I'd lean more towards the Tascam and Yamaha though. Forget the Behringer, they are usually junk, but there are people who like 'em.

Everyone has their preference and will offer their suggestions accordingly. I would imagine that older Studiomaster boards should be fairly cheap over there too, aren't they?

Between the ones you suggested I'd go for the Yamaha. The Alesis and the Behringer are surprisingly similar under the hood.

Yamaha has ALWAYS been incredible value for the money in features, durability, engineering and reliability.

I am a real fan of the old Tascam stuff but were I in need of purchasing a new analog mixer on a budget Yamaha would definitely be on the list.
