I need help from someone who knows about setting compressors

I need some advice on setting the settings on my Behringer Mdx2600 compressor.
I have a 9 member children?s group. Sometimes they sing loud and the next song they don?t sing loud enough. What settings should I set this compressor at where the vocals stay at a consistent tight volume range? Thanks
 
It doesn't really work that way... Well, it can to some extent, but it'll sound absolutely terrible... Especially the louder stuff. Super-low ratio (1.1 or maybe 1.5:1) with a fairly low threshold (only you'll know that one), slow attack, slower release -- It'll help some.

Sidenote: I'm assuming this is for some sort of live presentation -- If this is for recording, just leave it out of the path and compress later.
 
I don't recommend that compressor, it's just not very good, especially for live.

Just reposition the mics, and compress later.
