I DOnt know how to setup my mixer and computer so it would produce the right sound!

I dont know how to mix the mixer so that it would produce the right sound I mean not so loud and less. can anybody help me what should I do? When Im recording my headphone jacks to the speaker of my soundcard and my mic to the vocalprocessor->MIXER->Soundcard Mic In. Im using cakewalk but the output is sometimes so loud and sometimes less. What should I do? Help me please .... Thanks!
 
If your using a mixer then it should be providing power to the microphone, so plugging that into the mic input might be distorting the sound since the mic output is sending power to power a microphone also. Try plugging everything into the mixer, and then run out from the mixer to the line in of your sound card. I really don't know much about recording, but that's how I have mine set up.
