Humidifiers in a studio?

Flypaper for freaks
My studio is awfully dry. Would running a humidifier damage my gear? Is there anything I should look out for?

Are there any other potential solutions I could consider?

Thanks!

I'm in Oregon, rarely have too LITTLE humidity - first thing you should do is get one of these

I have four in different locations, and if I set them on the same shelf for a few minutes they all read within 1% of each other - this is rare, because most humidity gauges (even some in so-called "weather stations" don't tell you anything close to the truth.

Ideal humidity for a studio, assuming you have any wooden instruments, is 40-43% - main thing is consistency of humidity and temperature, because when these change so do all your wooden instruments.

Adding moisture is usually NOT a good idea, because things like mold (some is deadly, other forms only bad) grow better above 50% humidity.

HTH... Steve
