Hrtf

Anyone around here ever try HRTF mic'ing?
I was just reading about it and it seems interesting...

I am building a couple Omni Condensers with help of an old Tape-Op article...
And would like to try out this mic method...

Any tips, if you've done it?

Basically what I was thinking...

If I can get my drummer to not move around so much while recording...
Having him wear a pair of Omni Mics (using his head as a baffle)
In order to get that stereo image if the drum set...

Whether this will work or not... I dunno, but I think I'll try it.

This also leads me to the question...
What exactly is the different between HRTF and ORTF?
They seem extremely similar.

So far, the difference i've found (but I could be wrong) is that HRTF has a head-substitude thing (like a big foamy egg) to replicate what the head does to the sound reflection and dampening-wise. ORTF only has the mics, no head.

That's what I was thinking is the difference too...
I've heard some HRTF recordings
And they seem to have great stereo imaging.
