How to upgrade - do I need a sampler?

I've already posted this question elsewhere but it probably belongs in this forum..

So, I have a basic setup with XP, Cubase SX2, Reason 2.5 and Battery 2 on a 1.4ghz laptop.

I find Reason very quick and easy but I'm getting frustrated with the quality of the samples, especially piano and strings. I would like to upgrade my setup, using software only if possible.

Do I need to invest in a decent software sampler and some decent sample CDs? Or can I get some worthwhile downloads/CDs for Reason? I think I'm at the point where the quality of the sounds is a bit more important than just the cost.

I'd appreciate any comments.

if its just the sample quality thats too low for you then i bet a couple of nicely sampled cd's would help you out. I just got a sony catalog recently that has 100 cd's of samples in it (since they bought out acid)... i'm sure you can find a bunch almost anywhere ie.. zzounds, mf, ams, e-bay.. etc..

Sorry to sound dense, but are you talking about playing these samples via Reason? I don't have any other sample player...

from what i've just read reason takes soundfont 2 and .rex files very easily, and also imports .wav. many sample cd's contain both wave and soundfont samples, and there are even specific 'refills' for reason in the.rex format
ie. http://www.reasonrefills.com/rex2.html

i usually use all my samples in FL studio, but after doing all this reading on reason, i might give it a shot.
