I used to have this problem as well. Aside from cutting off the piano player's left hand (a good idea), you can cut the low end EQ, compress the piano, and intentionally make it sound thin. Finally, pan the piano hard left or right 70% and the bass shouldn't interfere with it. In my opinion, the soloed piano track sounds like poop, but when combined with the bass, it sits well in the mix.
