how to create drum patterns via sound module with sonar sequencer?

I've been using sonar for over a year now and it still blows my

mind with the stuff it can do.I carry my "Sonar Power" book

around like it's my bible.My question to you today is how do i use

the sequencer to build my own drum patterns from scratch via

external sound module/midi keyboard?My roland drum machine

allows me to set the number of measures,record my kick

drum,add a snare,then come back and add high hat etc. and loop

it back around in realtime.I wanted to know how i could do this

with the sonar sequencer?

I'll go first with the short version:

You need to find out which tones/notes that plays the kick, snare, hihats, etc on your soundmodule. These notes can then be programmed into Sonar via an external MIDI-keyboard of just clicked into the Piano Roll. (Assuming of course that you have connected your drum-machine to Sonar )
