How should I position room mic for drum

Hey all. I got this question that how should i position the room mic for drum. My room is around 36 by 24 feet. Half carpet half wood floor. The drum is setting at the wood floor side with carpet under it. Back of the drum are difuser. Most of the time set the drum mic at the carpet side and point at the difuser to the left of the drum. Once i saw the other engineer came in and point the mic direct at the drum but face the mic down at carpet before it hit the kick drum.

And How should i EQ the room mic. Usually i have to cut the Low out. and the add High to get more of room sound

Do you guys have any suggestion?
