How do you mix tracks into groups?

I want to know how to mix single tracks into groups.

My mixer is a TASCAM 312, 12 channels, 4 groups.

I would like to have drums in one group, guitars in another, and so on, and be able to adjust the levels of a each group afterwards.

How would I do this? I tried the manual but find it confusing.

you need seperate mics.

normally, there would be a button to assign a channel to a specific group, if that's what you mean?
