hi guys

i posted this on the marketing forum, but got no replies - just wondered if it was more of a technical query though...

this is probably a really simple question but - how do web sites and media players know the identity of CDs?

i mix, master and compile all my own demos and CDs - using Jam to compile.

how do i get things like windows media player and iTunes to pick up the identity of those CDs?

CAN i get media players to do it if i'm not with a major distributor? i run my own studio website - do i encode something there that the media players webcrawl to find the info?

is it a function of the CD or the websites the media players interrogate?

any help would be greatly appreciated. i just can't get my head round how it works!

cheers

That information comes from Gracenote (WMP...) and FreeDB (WinAMP, Audiograbber...)

The information needs to be furnished in proper format TO these places. Days to weeks later, it may or may not show up.

Off the record, I know that they both HIGHLY discourage having personal discs and one-offs submitted.
