my motherboard (asus A7M266) has a soundcard built onto the board that i never use. It, however, loads software and other things when my computer starts up. how can i physically disconnect the the onboard soundcard thus allowing me to safely uninstall the software?

Try the system setupin your DAW software...you can tell the software what sound devices you don't wan't to use, and save the setup...that way the internal card is available for games, etc, but for audio it is not selected...

check your motherboard manual.
that's what I now just did anyway..

You need to enter the bios setup.

Then check Page 67 of the manual,
Onboard Peripheral Resource Control ->

Set Onboard AC97 Audiocontroller to "Disabled".

That should disable the onboard soundcard completely and Windows won't detect it anymore.

If you can't find your manual, you can download it here as a .pdf file:
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/asus/mb/socka/amd760/a7m266/

thanks for the info christiaan!
